We built this hull for the moments that don't wait-the 2 a.m. flood call, the shallow shoal search at dusk, the coastal recovery in a fog bank. Unlike the inflatable boats so many rescue agencies keep stacked on a trailer, this is a rigid aluminum craft: no air chambers to puncture, no floor boards to delaminate, no frantic patching while the clock runs. Twelve rescue crew walk through the wheelhouse door onto an after-deck already laid for the job-stretcher brackets, D-rings, and safety-rope anchors welded in, room to bring casualties aboard and work on them under way. This emergency rescue boat leaves the yard ready to roll straight into a fire-and-rescue department's roster, no retrofit season and no equipment scramble before the first deployment.

By the time the boat arrives on scene, the crew already knows where they're going: the GPS plot and VHF patch them straight into the incident commander on shore. The frameless panoramic glass means the helmsman can scan the water surface on every side at once-looking for heads in the water, debris fields, floating structures that might be hiding a casualty.

 

On scene, the after-deck is where the work actually happens. The stretcher brackets and D-rings are welded in, not strapped on, so a casualty can be hoisted aboard and secured while the boat is still moving. The wide open deck lets two crews work at the same time-one hauling, one treating-instead of stepping over each other in a narrow well.

 

At night or in fog, the searchlight and beacons come up, and the underwater LEDs switch on too. That last detail matters in murky water: a person in the water becomes a silhouette against the surface instead of a dark patch you can't pick out.
