Catamarans
Compared to monohulls, catamarans are faster. Besides their widespread use in various sporting events, cruising catamarans, used for family vacations, leisure, and business meetings, are very popular in Europe and America. These catamarans are also becoming increasingly popular in China and are commonly seen in major yacht ports.
Powered Catamarans
A recent development in catamaran design is the powered catamaran. "Powered" catamarans combine all the advantages of motorized ships with many features of multihulls.
High-speed catamarans, like sailing catamarans, possess advantages such as stability, low water resistance, light weight, and reduced capsizing risk. They are a rapidly developing type and are frequently used in ferries and military transport.
Due to their longer hulls, catamarans generate less wave resistance at high speeds than monohulls, and their wider beam also contributes to stability. They are well-suited for transporting low-density cargo (e.g., as ferries or sightseeing boats).
